Today was our second session for one of the major cruise lines who call into St John’s. 19 of their crew who are part of the onboard fire teams were given the training to experience fighting live fires in a simulated ship environment. Lighting live fires on board the ships is clearly not possible
First for a little while as the superyaxhts come back to Antigua for the charter show. Promises to be a busy season here and many will need to do their basic safety updating. 2 days covering fire and sea survival and approved by the MCA
Ondeck is currently in Dominica conducting Boatmaster training for professionals in Dominica. Increasingly countries are insisting on Certification as well as experience in visiting Captains and Crew and that’s where we are helping out
This training will be followed by the STCW 10 [was STCW95] Basic Safety Training along with VHF SRC Radio certification back in Antigua
We had three early season wins for Mike Horn, Mathieu Bre and Iain McConnachie who all successfully passed their Yachtmaster Offshore exams. Mike and Mathieu had sailed in their aluminium exploration yacht, Pangaea and livened up the harbour with some of the ‘Boys Own’ exploration stories and a few beers.
